What is ‘MERI LIFE, MERA SWACHH SHAHAR’ campaign?

Meri LIFE, Mera Swachh Shahar campaign was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).

‘MERI LIFE, MERA SWACHH SHAHAR

The campaign launched for a period of 3 weeks leading up to World Environment Day, which was from May 15, 2023 to June 5, 2023. Meri LIFE, Mera Swachh Shahar campaign aims at ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ (RRR) as a one-stop solution for citizens, institutions, commercial enterprises, etc. to collect unused or used plastic items, clothing, footwear, books and toys. focuses on empowering Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to set up centers.

The ‘Meri LIFE, Mera Swachh Shahar’ campaign implemented by the ULBs under SBM-U 2.0. It is a campaign related to public outreach and involving the public at large. The Government of India has not formed any separate organization for this campaign. The campaign aims to spread awareness about Mission Life and contribute to a cleaner and greener environment by reducing waste generation, promoting resource conservation and adopting ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ (RRR) practices in our everyday lives. To bring about a change in the behavior of the citizens.

This campaign helps in building a circular economy by integrating the practices into the urban sanitation ecosystem. This minimizes waste and maximizes the use of resources, thereby ensuring the well-being of both present and future generations.

MOHUA has engaged door to door awareness campaign, social media campaign as well as influencers to engage citizens in this campaign. Apart from this, campaign related guidelines have also been issued for urban local bodies.

Union Minister Hardeep S Puri launched the ‘Meri LiFE, My Swachh Shahar’ campaign in the national capital New Delhi. The campaign promotes the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR) concept of waste management.
