The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare unveiled 3 game-changing initiatives for farmers to revolutionize Indian agriculture. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched 3 game-changing initiatives – Farmer Loan Portal (KRP), Manual on Weather Information Network Data System (WINDS), KCC Ghar-Ghar Abhiyan at the historic event held in the national capital. These 3 initiatives focus on agri-credit (KCC and MISS) and crop insurance (PMFBY/RWBCIS). These initiatives aim to revolutionize Indian agriculture, increase financial inclusion, optimize data usage and improve the lives of farmers across the country.

3 Game-changing initiatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare

3 game-changing initiatives have been launched by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare for farmers, which include Kisan Loan Portal (KAP), Manual on Weather Information Network Data System (WINDS), KCC Ghar Ghar Abhiyaan:

  1. Kisan Loan Portal (KRP): Kisan Loan Portal (KRP) has been developed collaboratively by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Department of Financial Services (DFS), Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAH&D), RBI & NABARD, and Department of Fisheries (DoF). This is a significant step in revolutionizing access to credit services under Kisan Credit Card (KCC). The KRP portal will also help farmers get concessional agricultural loans through the Modified Interest Subsidy Scheme (MISS). It serves as an integrated hub, providing a comprehensive view of farmer data, specifics of loan disbursement, interest subsidy claims and progress of scheme utilization.
  2. Door to Door KCC Campaign: This campaign will be conducted from 1 October 2023 to 31 December 2023. The aim of this ambitious campaign is to reach the benefits of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme to every farmer across the country by going door-to-door. The Ghar-Ghar KCC campaign underlines the commitment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare for universal financial inclusion. It ensures the farmer’s access to credit facilities to carry on his agricultural activities. This campaign will play an important role in reaching out to non-KCC account holding PM Kisan beneficiaries and promoting saturation of KCC accounts among eligible PM Kisan beneficiary farmers.
  3. WINDS MANUAL: The game changing initiative also includes the launch of WINDS MANUAL. WINDS (Weather Information Network Data System) initiative is a pioneering effort to establish a network of automated weather stations and rain gauges at the block and gram panchayat level. This initiative creates a strong database of weather data, which is useful for various agricultural services. This comprehensive WINDS manual provides stakeholders with an in-depth understanding of the portal’s functionalities, data interpretation and effective usage. It also provides practical insights for leveraging weather data for better crop management, resource allocation and risk mitigation.

The launch event symbolizes the government’s dedication towards innovation and efficient service delivery in agriculture to revolutionize Indian agriculture. Its objective is to maintain and increase the income of farmers regularly. These 3 game-changing initiatives – Kisan Loan Portal (KRP), door-to-door KCC campaign and WINDS Manual. Reflecting the government’s commitment to farmers’ prosperity, innovation, use of technology and objective service delivery. These efforts of the government will further the goal of agricultural transformation and sustainable economic growth for the farming community across the country.
