Quit India Movement Day 2022
Quit India Movement Day is celebrated every year on 8 August. This day marks the Quit India Movement. This day celebrated by paying tribute to the freedom fighters with national unity speech programs.
About this Movement:
The Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi started the Quit India Movement/August Movement/August Revolution on 8th August 1942. Gandhi had called for the slogan ‘do or die’ during this movement. The resolution of this movement passed by Mahatma Gandhi at the Bombay session of the All India Congress Committee during World War I. This was the third great mass struggle of the Indian people for the fight for independence. It also considered important in the freedom struggle movements. The general public also participated in it.
This protest to end British rule in united India started from Gowalia Tank Maidan, Bombay. This resolution gave approval to launch a mass struggle for India’s independence on the widest possible scale on non-violent lines. Mahatma Gandhi gave a speech while addressing the people of the country after the resolution passed. In this speech, Gandhi gave the mantra of ‘do or die’ to the people. Giving this mantra to the citizens of the country, the Father of the Nation said that either we will become free or we will die in its attempt.
The slogans of ‘Do or Die’ and ‘British Quit India’, given by Gandhi, became the main part of this fight. Yusuf Meher Ali, a leading leader of the Indian independence struggle given the slogan ‘Quit India’.
Quit India Movement Day: Impact of Independence
With the support of this mass movement, India finally got independence on 15th August 1947 but on the condition of partition of the nation. Viceroy Lord Mountbatten talked about the independence of British India on the condition of dividing it into Pakistan and Hindustan. Mahatma Gandhi very disappointed to get freedom at this unimaginable cost. He did not participate in any celebration of independence in the capital and in the country and fasted for 24 hours. After independence, the President of the Constituent Assembly gave the title of Father of the Nation to Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in the national capital Delhi.
