Recently, Payal Kapadia’s ‘All We Imagine as Light‘ won the Grand Prix award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

India wins four awards at the 77th Cannes Film Festival 2024

  1. Chidananda Naik:
  • Won the first award for India.
  • His short film “Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know” won the La Cinéfe award.
  1. Actress Anasuya Sengupta:
  • She became the first Indian to win the Best Actress award in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ category for her performance in ‘Shameless’. 
  1. Payal Kapadia
  • The film ‘All We Imagine as Light’ directed by him won the Grand Prix Award.
  1. Santosh Sivan
  • Won the prestigious Pierre Angenieux Tribute Award for Cinematography at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

Note:

  • Maisam Ali’s film “In Retreat” was screened in the ACID Cannes sidebar programme. This was the first time since its inception in 1993 that an Indian film was screened in the section run by the Association for the Diffusion of Independent Cinema.
  • Shyam Benegal’s film ‘Manthan’ has been screened in the Classical Film section of the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
