In India ‘National Sports Day’ is celebrated every year on 29 August. For the first time this day is celebrated in 2012. The day marks the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. Major Dhyan Chand was known as the magician of hockey. The Indian Postal Department renamed the National Stadium in Delhi as Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in 1979.

Question 2. Which scheme won the National Award for e-Governance 2023?

Answer – Swamitva Scheme

Swamitva Yojana (Survey of Village Population and Mapping with Improved Technology in Village Areas) of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj has been awarded the National e-Governance Award. The main objective of the SVAMITVA scheme is to provide citizen-centric services using innovative technologies. This scheme was awarded by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Government of India.

Question 3. Who became the first Indian to win a gold medal in the World Athletics Championships?

Answer – Neeraj Chopra

Neeraj Chopra has won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event at the World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary. Neeraj became the winner with a throw of 88.17m in his second attempt. With this also, he has become the first Indian player to win a gold medal in the World Athletics Championships. In second place was Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, who won the silver medal with a throw of 87.82 meters. Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic finished third with a throw of 86.67m.

Question 4. Where is the Bright Star-23 exercise being conducted?

Answer – Egypt

Indian Air Force participated in exercise ‘Bright Star-23’ held at Cairo Air Base in Egypt. This biennial multilateral tri-services exercise will be conducted from 27 August to 16 September 2023. The Indian Air Force is participating in this exercise for the first time. The air forces of the United States, Saudi Arabia, Greece and Qatar also participate in the exercise. The Indian Air Force contingent consists of 5 MiG-29, two IL-78, two C-130 and two C-17 aircraft.

Question 5. Which edition of ‘AUSINDEX’ was organized this year?

Answer – 5th Edition

The 5th edition of the biennial maritime exercise ‘AUSINDEX’ between the Indian Navy and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) was conducted at Sydney, Australia. The 5th edition of AUSINDEX was organized from 22 to 25 August 2023. The exercise included a series of complex exercises in all the three domains of maritime operations.
