Whale shark is the largest fish in the world. International Whale Shark Day is observed on 30 August to raise awareness of its plight. This fish does not harm humans. In 2008, the International Whale Shark Convention was held at Isla Holbox, where the day was celebrated for the first time. The conference was attended by 40 ocean experts, activists and scientists. The topic of discussion in this conference was the conservation of whale sharks that have lived for 240 to 260 million years.

FIFA recently lifted the ban on the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL). The Sri Lankan federation was banned in January 2023 for interfering in government affairs. FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura gave this information in a letter dated 28 August. With this ban lifted, the Sri Lankan national team will be able to resume international competition.

Recently IDFC First Bank has signed a title sponsor deal with BCCI for domestic international matches. IDFC First Bank as the new title sponsor will now pay Rs 4.2 crore per match to BCCI. Apart from IDFC First Bank, only Sony Sports had shown interest in the deal, which again went in favor of IDFC.
