India has set up its own pavilion for the first time at the World Hydrogen Summit 2024 to be held in Rotterdam, Netherlands from May 13 to 15, 2024.

Highlights of the World Hydrogen Summit 2024

  • Maiden India Pavilion at the World Hydrogen Summit 2024, Netherlands showcased the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
  • The India Pavilion, set up by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, is one of the largest pavilions of the summit.
  • The World Hydrogen Summit is a prestigious event in the global green hydrogen ecosystem.
  • Around 15,000 delegates are expected to attend the summit.

National Green Hydrogen Mission

  • Start: January 2023
  • India has set an ambitious target of achieving green hydrogen production capacity of 5 MMT (million metric tons) by the end of 2030.
  • Currently the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has awarded tenders for setting up 412,000 tonnes of green hydrogen production capacity and 1,500 MW electrolyzer manufacturing capacity.
  • Recently a dedicated portal for the National Green Hydrogen Mission has been launched, which will serve as a one-stop for information about the Mission and the steps taken for the development of green hydrogen ecosystem in India.

Note:

  • India has also notified planning guidelines for the use of green hydrogen in the steel, transportation/mobility and shipping sectors.
  • The Department of Science and Technology has launched the Hydrogen Valley Innovation Cluster to promote innovation and green hydrogen ecosystem in India.

About the Global Green Hydrogen Ecosystem

  • The Global Green Hydrogen Ecosystem was formally launched on May 19, 2023.
  • Major members – US, Germany, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Reliance, Adani Group etc.
  • This initiative will promote green hydrogen and progress India towards clean energy. Also, cooperation with other countries and companies will increase.
  • Goal: Minimize the cost of green hydrogen by 2030 and promote its use in India.

Objective:

  • Promoting the production and use of green hydrogen
  • To advance technological innovations in this field
  • Developing a green hydrogen economy.
