The PM’s focus is driven not just by providing economic support to artisans and craftsmen but also by the desire to keep the age-old tradition, culture and diverse heritage alive and thriving through local products, arts and crafts.

PM Vishwakarma Scheme

The ‘PM Vishwakarma’ scheme will be fully funded by the Central Government with an outlay of Rs 13,000 crore. Under this scheme, free registration of artisans and craftsmen will be done through common service centers using biometric based PM Vishwakarma portal. Under this scheme, a daily allowance of Rs 500 will be given and a toolkit incentive of Rs 15,000 will also be given. Artisans and craftsmen can avail collateral-free loan assistance up to Rs 1 lakh (first installment) and Rs 2 lakh (second installment) (3 lakh) at a concessional interest rate of 5 per cent under this scheme. The government will also help in branding, packaging and marketing of the products prepared by the artisans.

The main objective of PM Vishwakarma Yojana is to strengthen and nurture the family-based practice of traditional skills by Teacher-Student Parampara or artisans working with their own hands and tools. The main focus of the scheme is to improve the quality of products and services of artisans and craftsmen so that they are integrated with domestic and global value chains.
