5th edition of joint military exercise Dustlik organized
The 5th edition of joint military exercise Dustlik is being organized between India and Uzbekistan from April 15 this year.
Dustlick 5th Edition
- The 5th edition of joint military exercise Dustlik is being conducted in Termez district of Uzbekistan.
- It will be organized from 15 to 28 April 2024.
- The armies of both the countries will participate in this to improve the foundation of team cooperation and future military interactions.
- This 2-week long exercise under UN mandate will focus on sharing best practices in sub-conventional operations.
India-Uzbekistan representation at the exercise
- India is being represented by 45 armed forces contingent personnel in the 5th edition of the exercise.
- These include a battalion of the Jat Regiment and 15 personnel of the Indian Air Force.
- Uzbekistan is being represented by a contingent of about 100 Army and Air Force personnel.
- The soldiers are from the Southern Operational Command, part of the South-West Military District.
Objective
The objective of this exercise being conducted between India and Uzbekistan is to promote military cooperation and joint capabilities to conduct joint operations in mountainous and semi-urban areas. One of the objectives of conducting it is to focus on the basics of high level physical fitness, planning, joint tactical exercises and special weapon skills.
Exercises included in the 5th edition
- Creation of a joint command post in tactical exercises.
- Establishment of an intelligence and surveillance centre.
- Landing site security.
- Sending a small team into an operation and getting it out from there.
- Special heliborne operations, cordon and search operations, room intervention drills and demolition of illegal structures are also included.
Previous version of Dustlik
- The previous i.e. fourth edition of this joint military exercise was held in India in February 2023.
- The venue of the exercise in India was the Foreign Training Node at Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand.
- In this edition, emphasis was placed on exchange of expertise and experiences in areas related to peacekeeping operations.
- A total of 45 soldiers from both sides participated in this exercise.
