Every year on 7th August ‘National Handloom Day’ is celebrated in India. This year more than 3000 handloom and khadi weavers, artisans and people associated with textile and MSME sectors will participate in the National Handloom Day event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also participate in the function to be held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan on August 7 at 12 noon. On the occasion of this event, PM Modi will also launch the e-portal of “Indian Textiles and Crafts Fund”.

Hiroshima Day is observed every year on 6 August. America’s B-29 Super Fortress Enola Gay dropped an atom bomb ‘Little Boy’ on Hiroshima, Japan on 6 August 1945 during World War II. About 1 lakh 40 thousand people died in this attack. This was the world’s first atom attack, whose 78th anniversary was celebrated this year. On this day, people around the world call for peace and unarmed global unity.

Hati community organized a thanksgiving ceremony in Shimla for getting tribal status. Former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur also marked his presence in this function. The battle of the tribal movement was being fought by the Hati community for 55 years. This movement started after Jaunsar got tribal status.

Sri Lanka has recently been provided financial assistance of Rs 45 crore by the Government of India for a unique digital identity project. Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay handed over the check to Minister of State for Technology Kanak Herat. Sri Lanka’s Unique Identification Project will transform the country’s administrative structure to ensure better service delivery to citizens.

The University of Madras held its 165th convocation on 6 August. President Draupadi Murmu also marked his presence in this function. The University of Madras is one of the oldest modern universities in India. This university was established in the year 1857.
