Department of Defense Production issues notification for restructuring of DGQA

Recently, notification has been issued by the Department of Defense Production for the restructuring of the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) for a major reform towards ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and to achieve self-reliance in the defense sector.

Main Points

• This restructuring has led to changes in the quality assurance methodology and modified role of the Directorate General of Quality Assurance after corporatization of OFB.
• The restructured structure will boost indigenization drive under ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ with availability of Indian standards/equivalents to guide manufacturers in the country. This will also encourage export of high quality qualified defense products.
• DGQA will be restructured to provide effective and efficient support to the emerging defense manufacturing industry with increasing share of private defense industry through corporatization of Ordnance Factories into new DPSUs and Government’s push towards indigenization.
• The new structure of DGQA will enable single point technical support at all levels for the entire equipment/weapon platform and also ensure uniformity in product-based assurance.
• DGQA also provides for a separate Directorate of Defense Test and Evaluation Promotion to facilitate transparent allocation of proof ranges and testing facilities.

Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA)
