Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT) 2024

The Department of School Education and Literacy is conducting the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT) in 23 states/UTs on March 17, 2024. This examination will be conducted to assess the basic literacy and numeracy of the public under the ULLAS (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society)-Nav Bharat literacy program of the Department of School Education and Literacy.

Main Points

• Around 37 lakh learners will participate in this test developed to assess the basic literacy and numeracy skills of registered non-literate learners.
• This examination will be conducted in all the districts of 23 states/union territories.
• District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) and government/aided schools have been designated as examination centres.
• It consists of three subjects- Reading, Writing and Numeracy and each will carry a total of 50 marks. Hence the total exam is of 150 marks.
• This examination will be conducted in the regional language of the learners with the aim of promoting multilingualism.
• Till date, a total of 36,00,870 learners have been certified through FLNAT.

FLNAT 2024

Through this year’s FLNAT, a target has been set to declare some Union Territories including Chandigarh, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Goa as 100 percent literate. Learners who qualify the exam will be given a certificate issued by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). This certificate will recognize their achievement in acquiring basic literacy and numeracy skills.

History

The first examination of Primary Literacy and Numeracy Assessment was held on 19 March 2023. In which more than 22.70 lakh learners aged between 15 years to more than 80 years had participated. The first FLNAT was organized in 10 states and union territories of the country. Apart from this, an examination was held on 24 September 2023, in which 17,39,097 learners appeared.
