MoU between Indian Coast Guard and Jindal Steel and Power

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) on May 07, 2024 signed MoU in New Delhi for supply of indigenous marine graded steel with a view to promote indigenous shipbuilding material ( MOU) has been signed.

Key Points

• Through this MoU, it will be committed to promote indigenization and increase the capabilities of production and use of these goods in the interest of the nation.
• This MoU underlines the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing complex security challenges.
• This MoU envisages several key benefits including quality, grade and dimensions along with designated steel plants to manufacture the product while assuring shipbuilding yards of timely supply of indigenous marine graded steel for the Indian Coast Guard.

Indian Coast Guard (ICG)

• The Indian Coast Guard was established on 1 February 1977.
• It was formally established on 18 August 1978 by the Coast Guard Act, 1978 of the Parliament of India.
• It operates under the Ministry of Defence.
• Headquarters: New Delhi
• Its main objective is to protect the maritime areas, islands and coastal areas of India. It maintains security by conducting patrolling tours in Indian waters.

Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSP)

• Jindal Steel and Power Limited was established in 1952.
• Headquarters: Hisar (Haryana)
• The company manufactures specialized high-quality steel rail products for rail, road and bridge construction. Apart from this it also produces coking coal, cement and grade fertilizers.
• Production Capacity: JSP has an annual steel production capacity of approximately 9 million tonnes.
• Subsidiaries: JSP has coal mines, cement and grade fertilizer plants in Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha.
