On 10th April 2024, Ministry of Mines, Government of India organized Mining Start-up Webinar. The objective of this webinar is to encourage research and innovation in mining and mineral processing.

Mining Start-up Webinar

This special webinar was inaugurated by Professor Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology. The keynote address was given by Mines Secretary VL Kanta Rao. The Mining Start-ups Webinar was attended by start-ups, MSMEs and individual innovators (approximately more than 200 participants) working in the mining and metals sector to explore opportunities to promote research and innovation in mining and mineral processing. .

In this webinar, participants had an in-depth discussion on the latest trends, challenges and opportunities in mining and mineral processing. Dr. Anupam Agnihotri, Director, JNARDDC gave a presentation on the working and guidelines of S&T-PRISM. Amitesh Sinha, Head – Corporate, Venture Capital and Vedanta Spark Initiatives and Rohit Pathak, CEO and Business Head, Birla Copper (Aditya Birla Group) shared their personal experiences about working with startups in the mining sector. Apart from these, Professor Asim Tiwari of Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay provided information about the role of Artificial Intelligence in the mining sector.

Research and Innovation Promotion Program in MSMEs in S&T-PRISM

In November, 2023, the Ministry had launched the program “Research and Innovation Promotion in Start-ups and Research and Innovation Promotion in MSMEs in Mining, Mineral Processing, Metallurgy and Recycling Sector (S&T-PRISM)”. The objective of this program is to fund research and innovation in startups and MSMEs working in the field of mining and industrial applications.

The implementing agency for S&T-PRISM is Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminum Research and Design Centre, Nagpur. Recently JNARDDC has invited new proposals under the S & T-PRISM programme. Their deadline has been set as April 30, 2024.
