Aadi Mahotsav in Jamshedpur: 7 to 16 October 2023

Aadi Mahotsav is being organized in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand from 7 to 16 October 2023. The festival was inaugurated by Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda. Organized to commemorate the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the event will feature tribal arts, handicrafts, natural products and delicious dishes along with coarse grains grown by the tribal communities across the country.

Aadi Mahotsav 2023 in Jamshedpur

This Aadi Mahotsav is being organized by the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in Jamshedpur. Aadi Mahotsav is an annual initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs that celebrates the spirit of tribal entrepreneurship, crafts, culture, cuisine, commerce and age-old traditional arts. The festival serves as a platform to showcase the rich and diverse heritage of the groups of the country. More than 150 stalls have been arranged for tribal arts, handicrafts, natural products and delicious dishes in this event.

The Mahotsav will host around 336 tribal artisans and artists including Economically Weaker Tribal Groups (PVTGs) and Van Dhan Kendra beneficiaries. Held in Jamshedpur, Aadi Mahotsav provides an opportunity to meet artisans, learn about their way of life and gain a deeper understanding of tribal culture and traditions, apart from their music, art, painting and cuisine. As 2023 has been declared as the ‘International Year of Nutritious Cereals’ at India’s insistence, the Aadi Mahotsav will also showcase millets grown by tribal communities across the country. Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Renuka Singh Saruta and Bishweshwar Tudu along with other dignitaries will also mark their presence at Aadi Mahotsav 2023.

About Aadi Mahotsav

Aadi Mahotsav as a national tribal festival was started in the year 2017. This is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED). Its objective is to make the public aware of the products manufactured by tribal communities and their culture at one place. In the year 2019, the festival was organized in the national capital and arrangements were made for exhibition and sale of tribal handicrafts, arts, paintings, clothes, jewelery etc.

When was the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) established?

Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) was established in the year 1987 as the national nodal agency under the aegis of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 1984.
