India’s new fighter jet Tejas Mark-1A takes first flight in the sky
The Indian Air Force’s new fighter jet Tejas Mark-1A took off for 18 minutes on March 28, 2024 from the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) airport in Bengaluru.
About new fighter jet Tejas Mark-1A
- It has been developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency at the DRDO Lab in Bengaluru.
- Its taxi trials were conducted at the facility of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
- It was piloted by HAL Chief Test Pilot (Fixed Wing) Group Captain (Retd) KK Venugopal.
- The new Tejas fighter jet (Mark-1A) is the world’s best light combat aircraft.
- Tejas Mark-1A digital radar alert receiver, advanced electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, advanced visual-range (BVR) air-to-air missiles and external self-protection jammer pod are among the features.
- Digital fly by wire flight control computer (DFCC) has been installed in Tejas MK-1A fighter jet.
- Manual flight controls have been removed from the fighter jet and electronic interface has been installed.
- With this, radar, elevator, aileron, flaps and engine will be controlled electronically.
- This Mark-1A of Tejas is very small compared to other fighter jets.
- Tejas MK-1A fighter jet flies at a speed of 2205 km/hour and is capable of carrying 6 types of missiles.
- Its length is 43.4 feet. Its height is 14.5 feet. Its combat range is 739 kilometers and its ferry range is 3000 kilometers. It can reach a height of 50 thousand feet.
