Goa will host the 37th National Games

Goa is going to host the 37th National Games with a record 43 sports disciplines. This information was given by Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and State Sports Minister Govind Gaude in a press conference held on October 6. The Chief Minister and Sports Minister said that the event will be an opportunity to celebrate athletic prowess and camaraderie and will usher in many exciting sporting events.

About 37th National Games

The previous edition of the National Games was held in Gujarat, which featured 36 disciplines. Before that, 33 sports disciplines were included in the 2015 edition in Kerala. In comparison, the 2023 National Games will be the biggest event ever. This Olympic-style multi-sport event will see participation from 28 states and 8 union territories. The 37th National Games will be held from 26 October to 9 November 2023. Several venues in the state will host various competitions, among which cycling and golf will be held in the national capital.

The 37th National Games will see the debut of several new sports, including beach football, roll ball, golf, sepaktakraw, square martial arts, Kaliyapattu and pencak silat. Apart from these, sailing and taekwondo are returning, which were not included in the previous edition. To celebrate the tradition, the games of Lagori and Gatka have been included as demonstration games, adding a unique and cultural dimension to the event. This year more than 10,000 athletes will converge to excel. This sports festival will be inaugurated with the coastal rowing event, which is going to create history in India.

Chief Minister’s view on this program

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said about his vision for Goa, “We aspire to establish a thriving sports ecosystem in Goa. Just as tourists have long enjoyed our beautiful beaches, Similarly, we now aim to attract sports lovers from all over the world. Events like Ironman and World Table Tennis have showcased our capabilities in hosting international sports events. With the state-of-the-art infrastructure developed for the National Games, we are able to connect with sports federations and We invite National Federations to use these facilities throughout the year. Our aim is to take sports in Goa to new heights.”
