Convocation organized for 79th Staff Course

The Convocation of the 79th Staff Course was held at the Defense Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington on 13 April 2024.

Commandant, DSSC Lieutenant General Virendra Vats presided over the convocation of the 79th Staff Course. The Commandant in his convocation address called upon the future leaders to continue the pursuit of knowledge and become heralds of change in the armed forces. Virendra Vats stressed the need to promote joint culture and ethos. A total of 476 officers, including 36 international officers from 26 friendly foreign countries, graduated from the 79th Staff Course. At the convocation, medals were awarded to meritorious officers who have excelled in military studies, groups who have achieved distinction in exercises and research projects.

Convocation Medal

• Major BPS Mankotia of the Indian Army, Commander Ravikant Tiwari of the Indian Navy and Wing Commander T Mohan of the Indian Air Force were awarded the Manekshaw Medal for overall best in order of merit in their respective services.
• Major C Tineswaran of the Republic of Singapore has been awarded the Southern Star Medal. He has been selected as the best among international student officers.
• Apart from these, medals were also awarded for academic excellence and all-round efficiency.

What is a staff course?

Under the Staff Course, selected officers of the three Services are trained in command and staff functions in peace, war in service, inter-service and joint service environments. Selected officers are provided with relevant general education to enable them to perform effectively in command and staff appointments.
