Answer – Dr. Arvind Panagariya
The Government of India has constituted the 16th Finance Commission in pursuance of Article 280 (1) of the Constitution with the approval of the President. The Chairman of the 16th Finance Commission will be Dr. Arvind Panagariya, former Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog and Professor of Columbia University. Ritwik Ranjanam Pandey has been appointed Secretary of the Finance Commission.
Question 2. What is the name of the first river project of its kind in North India built on the lines of Namami Ganga?
Answer – Devika River Project
Recently, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh visited the Devika River Project site and inspected the final preparations. The Rs 190 crore centrally funded Devika River Project is in its final stages. This project was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2019. It is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the near future.

Vice Admiral V Srinivas took over as the 30th Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOCINC) of the Southern Naval Command at an impressive ceremonial parade held at the Naval Base, Kochi on 31 December 2023. V Srinivas has assumed charge in place of Vice Admiral MA Hampiholi. Vice Admiral V Srinivas was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 1 July 1987. Vice Admiral MA Hampiholi retired recently after an illustrious career in the Indian Navy spanning nearly four decades.

Answer – Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Jammu and Kashmir (TeH)
‘Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Jammu and Kashmir (TeH)’ has been declared an unlawful organization by the Government of India under Section 3 (1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967. The Union Home Minister, in a post on the X platform, said that this organization is involved in prohibited activities to separate Jammu and Kashmir from India and establish Islamic rule. The group has been found spreading anti-India propaganda and continuing terrorist activities to promote separatism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Question 5. In which city India’s first submarine tourism will be unveiled?
Answer – Dwarka
The Government of Gujarat in collaboration with Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) is preparing for India’s first submarine tourism venture in the ancient city of Dwarka. This tourism facility is expected to be operational before Diwali 2024. It will be a festive occasion for both the local people and tourists.
