Recently, Grid Controller of India Limited (GRID-India) Company has achieved an important milestone by achieving the status of Miniratna Category-I Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE).

  • This recognition given by the Ministry of Power, Government of India underlines the important role of Grid-India in the power scenario of the country.
  • Grid-India has the important mandate of overseeing the flawless and uninterrupted operation of the Indian power system, ensuring efficient transfer of electric power within and across regions, with focus on reliability, economy and sustainability as well as facilitating transnational power exchange.   • Grid-India comprising five Regional Load Despatch Centers (RLDC) and National Load Despatch Center (NLDC) bears the responsibility of managing the All India Synchronous Grid, one of the largest and most complex power systems in the world.
  • Over the years, Grid-India has responded rapidly to the convergence of power systems, increasing energy demands, proliferation of renewable energy (RE) sources, economic growth and technological advancements as well as evolving regulations and market needs.

Grid Controller of India Limited (GRID-INDIA)

  • Established- Year 2009
  • Its erstwhile Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO) is a wholly owned company of the Government of India under the Ministry of Power.
  • It consists of five Regional Load Despatch Centers (RLDC) and one National Load Despatch Center (NLDC).
  • Southern Regional Load Despatch Center (SRDCC) looks after the RLDC operations of the southern region of India.

Vision:

The aim is to ensure the integrated operation of regional and national power systems, facilitating the transfer of electric power within and outside regions and internationally, along with the reliability, security and economy of exchange.

Mission:

To ensure integrated operation of regional and national power systems to facilitate transmission of power and inter-national exchange of energy with reliability, security and economy.

Miniratna Company

  • ‘Miniratna’ is a category of public sector enterprises (PSUs) in India.
  • These companies are consider smaller than Navratna and Maharatna companies.
  • The criteria for being classified as a Miniratna are set by the Department of Public Enterprise (DPE) in India.
  • At present there are a total of 74 Miniratna PSUs in India.
  • These companies play an important role in sectors like aviation, defence, telecommunications and engineering.
