Recently, India’s first indigenously built 1500 Horsepower engine has been successfully tested for the first time at BEML Mysore. On this occasion, the Defense Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane also inaugurated the ‘Wall of Fame’ to recognize the extraordinary efforts made by the BEML team. It symbolizes his contribution in modernizing the country’s defense capabilities and achieving new milestones in indigenous technological innovation.

Main points of indigenously built 1500 horsepower engine

  • The capacity of this engine is 1500 horsepower.
  • This engine represents a new change in the army’s propulsion system. Which includes many state-of-the-art features like high power-to-weight ratio, ability to operate in harsh conditions including high altitudes, sub-zero temperatures and deserts.
  • Equipped with modern technology, this engine is at par with the most modern engines available all over the world.
  • This first test of the engine marks the completion of the first production run with a focus on technology stabilization.
  • In the second phase of production, BEML will produce engines for various trials at DRDO’s laboratory Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment. They will also be installed in actual vehicles for user testing.
  • The project is likely to be completed by mid-2025. Launched in August 2020, the project has been carefully planned with five phases. It has been ensured to complete it on time by following all the quality standards.
  • This success marks the beginning of a new era in the country’s defense capabilities which reflects its commitment to be self-reliant in the field of defense technology along with technical prowess.
