India’s first OPD dedicated to trans people inaugurated
Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital launched India’s first outpatient department (OPD) dedicated to trans people at the beginning of Seva Pakhwada. In this OPD, transgender people will get free treatment, free check-up and other facilities like surgery related to gender change.
The inauguration ceremony of this OPD was led by Dr. (Prof.) Ajay Shukla, Director, RML Hospital. This initiative of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital will help transgender people to access health services. Difficulties in accessing health services are generally faced by this community due to fear of discrimination and social apathy.
India’s first OPD dedicated to transgender people will provide them with the following facilities:
- Treatment, investigation and sex change surgery will be done free of cost.
- The specialty OPD clinic will be open for trans people every Friday from 2 to 4 pm.
- Separate OPD registration counters will be set up to facilitate smooth processing of these clinics.
- Endocrinology facility with clinico-psychological assessment.
- Plastic surgery facilities will be provided for various surgeries.
- Dermatology facility.
- Medicine and doctor facilities for various types of diseases.
- Urology facility for related problems.
- Pediatric facilities will also be provided.
- Separate toilet facilities for gender neutral/transgender.
- All other related blood tests.
The transgender community has lauded India’s first out-patient department (OPD) facility launched by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. With this initiative, they will no longer be deprived of health services and they will also be able to avail health facilities like other people.
What is Seva Pakhwada?
Seva Pakhwada is being organized from September 17 to October 2 (Gandhi Jayanti) on the occasion of the 73rd birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Many types of schemes and facilities will be launched under Seva Pakhwada. India’s first OPD dedicated to trans people was also inaugurated during the Seva Pakhwada. Apart from this, PM Modi has launched PM Vishwakarma Yojana. Now a great blood donation camp is being organized on 18th September. Free health camps will be organized at CHC and PHC on 23rd and 24th September.
