KABIL signs agreement with CSIR-NGRI
Recently, Mineral Videsh India Limited (KABIL) entered into a joint venture with Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Institute of Geophysical Research (CSIR- A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with NGRI.
Main points
- The collaboration will focus on geophysical, geochemical and geological surveys, data analysis, interpretation and modelling, sharing of scientific information, technical cooperation and advisory services.
- The MoU was signed by Shri Sadashiv Samantrai, Director (Commercial), NALCO and CEO, KABIL and Dr. Prakash Kumar, Director, CSIR-NGRI at NALCO’s corporate office in Bhubaneswar. On this occasion, NALCO CMD and KABIL Chairman Shri Shridhar Patra was also present.
- This collaboration will pave the way to foster innovation and actionable insights in KABIL’s projects.
About Minerals Videsh India Limited (KABIL)
- Established: Year 1972
- It is a Central Public Sector Undertaking under the administrative control of the Ministry of Mines, Government of India.
- KABIL is a joint venture company of three public sector undertakings National Aluminum Company Limited (NALCO), Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) and Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL) under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India.

Functions of KABIL:
- Investing in mineral exploration and excavation projects abroad.
- To explore and excavate various mineral resources like coal, iron ore, aluminium, gold, copper etc.
- To form joint venture partnerships for Indian companies in mineral exploration and excavation projects.

About National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI)
- Established: Year 1961
Main functions of NGRI:
- To explore geological formations, minerals, water and hydrocarbon resources using geophysical techniques.
- To conduct research to assess and prevent natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides and river floods.
- To study the internal structure and dynamics of the Earth.
- To conduct research in geological, environmental and geo-technology areas.
- To develop geophysical instruments and techniques for resource exploration, development and management of the country.
About Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- Established: Year 1942
- It is India’s leading research and development organization.
- It works under the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India.
- The main objective of CSIR is to promote research and development activities in the industrial sector.
- It conducts research on various areas of science and technology such as chemistry, biotechnology, electronics and complementary medicine.
- Schemes like Society for Innovative and Applied Research (SIN), Research Innovation Committee and New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative have been launched by CSIR.
