India’s progressive path in the administration of criminal justice system: Conference organized
The Ministry of Law and Justice is organizing a conference titled ‘India’s Progressive Path in Administration of Criminal Justice System’ at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, Janpath, New Delhi, on April 20, 2024. The Chief Justice of India, Dr. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud attended this conference as the chief guest.
The conference started with the inaugural session in which the Chief Justice of India, Dr. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, gave a speech. The inaugural session highlighted the broad objectives of the three new criminal laws. After this, three technical sessions were organized.
Objective of the Conference’ India’s Progressive Path in Administration of Criminal Justice System’
The objective of this conference is to highlight the highlights of the three criminal laws designed to bring about a paradigm shift in the country’s criminal justice system and to organize meaningful interactions through technical and question-and-answer sessions.
Three new laws
Recently, three laws have been made to change the country’s criminal justice system radically. These laws are meant to repeal the old colonial laws and replace them with a citizen-centric and vibrant democracy. These legislations are the Indian Judicial Code, 2023; The Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023; and the Indian Evidence Act, 2023, which will replace the earlier criminal laws, namely the Indian Penal Code, 1860; Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973; and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872. These three criminal laws will come into effect from July 1, 2024.

Chief Justice Dr. Justice D.Y. Apart from Chandrachud, Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Attorney General of India Shri R Venkataramani, Solicitor General of India Shri Tushar Mehta and Home Secretary in the Government of India Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla participated in this conference. Apart from these, judges from various courts, advocates, academicians, representatives of law enforcement agencies, police officers, public prosecutors, district administration officials, and law students participated in this conference.
