PM Modi lauds ‘Nutri Garden Project’ in Lakshadweep
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appreciated the ‘Nutri Garden Project’ in Lakshadweep. PM Modi said that this initiative has shown how enthusiastic the people of Lakshadweep are about learning and adopting new technologies.
As a result of the development objective of self-reliant India, this project has been launched, in which vegetable seeds have been provided to 1000 farmers. Apart from this, 7000 chickens of indigenous breeds have been distributed to the women of Lakshadweep families earning less than Rs.600 under the Backyard Poultry Scheme.
What is the Nutri Garden Project?
The concept of Nutri Garden has been developed by Krishi Vigyan Kendras. Generally, a farm or at least a garden is required to grow vegetables. But with the help of Nutri Garden model developed by Krishi Vigyan Kendras, you can grow vegetables etc. in any empty space in front-back or on the terrace of your house.
It is the right of every person to have a good and nutritious diet. The government is working on such schemes, so that the problem of malnutrition in the country can be removed. Nutritious food can be made available to women and children of every section of the village or city.
The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development launched POSHAN Abhiyaan in March 2018. The concept of Nutri Garden was also included in this campaign. The main objective of making Nutri Garden is to promote nutrition and quality food. From Anganwadi centers to farmer families, the trend of Nutri Garden is increasing.

Which vegetables to grow in Nutri Garden
You can grow all kinds of vegetables in Nutri Garden as per your requirement. For example, in summer vegetables, you can grow chilli, okra, bitter gourd, gourd, tomato, colocasia, cucumber, tinda, amaranth and brinjal. Where in winter season you can produce cabbage, tomato, cauliflower, pumpkin vegetables and spinach.
While growing vegetables in your Nutri Garden, one thing must be kept in mind that there should be direct sunlight on your garden. Along with this, always add vermicompost and manure for better production. Apart from this, you can also add organic waste from the kitchen.
