Sanket Sargar won silver medal in Commonwealth Games-2022

Sanket Sargar has won silver medal in weightlifting in Commonwealth Games-2022 held in Birmingham. With this, Sanket Sargar has become the first Indian athlete to win a medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. Sanket won the silver medal in the men’s 55kg event with a total of 248kg (113kg in snatch, 135kg in clean and jerk). Aneek Mohamad of Malaysia was the winner of the gold medal in this competition. Aneeq Mohammad won the gold medal with a total of 249 kg (107 kg in snatch, 142 kg in clean and jerk).

Who is Sanket Sargar?

  • Sangli Sargar, who lives in Sangli, Maharashtra, helps his father in a paan shop.
  • Sanket has studied history from Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
  • Sanket Sargar was selected to represent India at NIS Patiala in October, 2021.
  • In his career, Sanket has won gold medals in Khelo India Youth Games-2020 and Khelo India University Games-2020. In February 2022 at the Singapore Weightlifting International, Sanket created a new Commonwealth and National record by lifting 256kg (113kg in snatch and 143kg in clean and jerk).
