- International Museum Day was started in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
- The first International Museum Day was held on 18 May 1978 and was attended by 22 countries

- Museum Day promotes awareness and appreciation of art, history and science in the society.

International Council of Museums (ICOM)
