Shefali B. Sharan becomes Principal Director General of PIB

Recently, Ms. Shefali B Sharan has assumed the charge of Principal Director General of Press Information Bureau (PIB).

About Ms. Shefali B Sharan

• Ms. Sharan is a 1990 batch officer of the Indian Information Service.
• She has also worked as the spokesperson of the Election Commission of India.
• During his illustrious career spanning over three decades, he has held cadre responsibilities handling large scale media publicity tasks as Press Information Office Officer for Ministries like Finance, Health & Family Welfare and Information & Broadcasting.
• Worked on the cadre post of OSD (Information Policy in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, 2000-2002) and as Director, Administration and Finance in LSTV, Lok Sabha Secretariat in the year 2007-2008.
• Has also worked as Director in the Ministry of Health [Department of Traditional Medical Systems/Department of AYUSH (2002-2007)] and Ministry of Finance (Department of Economic Affairs 2013-2017) under Central Staffing Scheme deputation.

Press Information Bureau (PIB)

• It is a nodal agency of the Government of India.
• It was established in June 1919.
• It works to disseminate information to print and electronic media on government policies, programmes, initiatives and achievements.
• It acts as an interface between the government and the media, and also provides feedback to the government on people’s reactions to what they see in the media.
